TUESDAY night's Marisa Sports Trophy quarter-final games saw three very exciting games.
Sinnington lost 3-0 to Amotherby and Swinton. The game was switched to Amotherby and Swinton's ground whose goals were scored by Mick Robinson (2) and Matty Biggins. Lee Mitchell was Sinnington's man of the match.
Union Rovers beat Ampleforth 6-5 after extra time. The Union Rovers goals were scored by Andy Piercy, Jamie Wilkinson and man of the match Paul holder, two each.
Thornton-le-Dale entertained Pickering Royal Oak. The game ended 1-1. Pugh scored for Royal Oak after 44 minutes. Johnathan Scoble scored after 75 minutes. Royal Oak eventually won 5-4 as the result of a penalty shoot-out.
No real shocks in Saturday's first round of the Marisa Sports Trophy although the second division champions, Amotherby and Swinton beat local rivals Slingsby 4-3 on penalty kicked after the game ended 1-1 after extra time.
Sinnington beat Ryedale SC reserves 3-0 at Ryedale with goals scored by Rob Atkinson and Gary Mitchell (2). Paul Harland was the Sinners' man of the match, Phil Hutchinson won the Ryedale award.
Ampleforth won 4-1 at Heslerton reserves with goals scored by Ben Wall, Joe Casey, Kevin Wright, and Dave Wallinger. Gareth Driver scored for Heslerton. Man of the match winners were Gareth Driver (Heslington) and Leo Wall (Ampleforth).
Thornton-le-Dale had a 6-0 home win against Old Red House. The Dale marksmen on Saturday were Mark Shepherd (2) and one each for Andrew Spittlehouse, Jonathan Scoble, Mike Lealman and Richard Swiers.
Pickering Royal Oak beat Duncombe Park 2-0 with goals scored by Adam Hornby and Damon Cox.
Aislaby Utd beat Bagby and Balk 10-2 with the Bagby and Balk first half goals scored by Paul Fountain and Andrew Burton. The Aislaby goals were scored by Colin Tate (2), Colin Frank (3) and one each for Brendan Rudland, Kenny Temple, Simon King, Andrew Bayes, and an own goal scored by Graham Duncalfe. Man of the match winners were Brendan Rudland (Aislaby Utd), Stewart Pollitt (Bagby & Balk).
The league has its first two cup finals of the season this weekend. On Saturday (ko 6pm at Kirkbymoorside), the Ryedale Hospital Cup Final will see the current holders Rosedale play second division runners-up Duncombe Park. On Monday, April 29, the final of the Gordon Harrison Memorial Trophy (at Pickering Town's ground ko 7.30pm) will be staged between Aislaby United and Kirkdale United.
Kirkdale Utd beat Kirkbymoorside reserves last Thursday 1-0. Martin Charlton scored the only goal of the game after five minutes of the second period of extra time, to earn his side a final spot and a man of the match award for himself.
Black Swan, Pickering beat Aislaby United 7-1 last Thursday night, to reach the top four.
Four goals by Matt Cass and a hat-trick by Marc Dobson put Aislaby into the Marisa Sports Trophy.
Last Saturday in the semi-finals of the Victory Cup, both champions Kirkbymoorside reserves and runners-up Rosedale suffered home defeats.
Kirkdale United having their pitch drained, switched their game to Rosedale and fully deserved their 2-0 victory with goals scored by Mark Langdale and substitute Adrian Voicu. Man of the match winners were Richard Dunn (Rosedale), Ian Prendergast (Kirkdale Utd).
Kirkbymoorside reserves entertained Black Swan, Pickering who won 1-0 thanks to a second half goal scored by Christian Walton. Men of the match were Dave Smith (Kirkbymoorside res), Paul Mann (Black Swan, Pickering).
