From the Gazette & Herald, first published Wednesday 6th Aug 2003.
THIS is a book of splendid photographs that the photographer has assembled over a number of years to capture customs and events that reflect a life that we regard as exclusively English.
They show and report on a way of life that is found nowhere else and of which, at their core, we are proud. It is inevitable that the reader will find something they think should be included - where for instance is village cricket? - but in a book of this size something has to be left out. It is obvious from these photographs that nothing is posed - everything is spontaneous and therefore all the better in what they are meant to do - reflect the Englishness of life.
