From the Gazette & Herald, first published Wednesday 6th Aug 2003.
A RYEDALE craftsman will be watching his work hit the small screen this winter when a celebrity One Man and His Dog goes on the air.
Jack Hollows, from Wilton, outside Pickering, has been hand-crafting shepherds' crooks since the early 1960s.
And his ornate work has been chosen for shepherds and celebrities alike.
When the show was recently filmed at Castle Howard, Mr Hollows found his crooks a lot closer to home, as TV vet Trude Mostue, Countryfile presenter John Craven and countrywoman Clarissa Dickson-Wright, commandeered the crooks.
"For the shows I make four for each team, three for the competitors and one for the celebrity," explained Mr Hollows.
"I collect the sticks from different makers and then I craft the tops.
"My crooks have gone all over the world, including Germany, Ireland, the Netherlands, Sweden and America."
