KIRKBYMOORSIDE Town Band is celebrating the continuation of its remarkable record of success by becoming the overall winner of the Yorkshire and Humberside Brass Band Association's Marching Contest, held last weekend in Easingwold.
The band has enjoyed considerable success in the contest over the years and has won the deportment section (the marching element) on a number of occasions.
However, on Saturday, the band surpassed itself by not only winning the deportment, but also becoming the overall winner, with the highest aggregate points.
The band has a history as one of the oldest bands in the country, traced back for more than 185 years.
It also runs learners' classes and a junior band. Individual tuition is freely given and no one wishing to learn to play a brass instrument has ever been turned away.
